Looking at data for numeracy 2015

This year we are continuing with a strong focus on Numeracy.
We were part of the Numeracy contract through the Ministry in 2014 and will again use this learning to support our professional development in 2015.
This session was based around looking at hard data and seeing where the gaps were.

Information on student achievement is collected both formally and informally. Teachers formally collect and record information about what students have learned and they also observe informally what students know and are able to do. What teachers record, see and know about students will all be used when they make decisions in the best interests of their students.

Call Back days English language learning progressions

We were looking into the ELLP in this session.

The English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) explain what ESOL specialists and mainstream teachers need to know about English language learners. They will help teachers to choose content, vocabulary, and tasks that are appropriate to each learner's age, stage, and language-learning needs. This may include learners for whom English is a first language but who would benefit from additional language support.

As a staff if we are to better understand our child's learning needs we need to be sure that we have a a sound understanding of their gaps.
Knowing the students before us and knowing where each of them as individuals are in their learning journey is vital of we are to 'fill the gaps"

Learn,Create and Share

This is the theme that will drive our school this year. Each year we have a theme and for 2015 we will be using these three words to push and extend the children.

Getting ready for the 2015 year with the staff.

Looking forward for the coming week with two call back days planned.
We have a close look taking place on the literacy learning progressions and then Maths PD on the Wednesday.
Maths will again be the focus for the staff meaning that we would have had intensive Maths PD for a total of two years which is just what our Whole school data is showing we are needing.

Every year we also have a team building activity planned so watch this space for photos.
