Information writing from the zoo trip

St Dominics says No to Bullies

Loads of learning and understanding around this topic at present. It's important that our children understand what it looks like and what to do when they feel unsafe. It is all part of our Health programme we run here at school.

Maori Language Week 2015

This special week provides an opportunity to celebrate and learn te reo Māori, helping to secure its future as a living, dynamic, and rich language.

We asked all our children to bring into school a picture of their tupuna,an ancestor which we have placed onto a wall in our library.
Some fantastic pictures and so much history!

Thank you everyone for getting behind this.

Zoo trip today

We had a great time today learning all about the wonderful creatures that God has given us.
The weather was fantastic and all the children were excellent on our whole school trip out.
Thanks to the wonderful parents that helped out taking groups and the teachers certainly loved having you help out.
The zoo staff were excellent and everyone enjoyed them selves.

Litter warriors at our school

This group of stars helped out today with picking up rubbish. This is part of our Respect value where we have to look after our school and environment. They do this because they want to and the sticker and house points go along way also!

Showing our school values.

3 baskets of Knowledge the St Dominic's conference.

Powhiri at St Dominic's College Henderson

During the school holiday I attended the Dominican Conference here in Auckland. There were many teachers and senior staff from here in New Zealand and from Australia. We were welcomed through powhiri on the Friday morning at St Dominic's Collage and had a liturgy in there chapel.
It was an excellent conference with excellent speakers. The learning for me was around the Popes recent climate encyclical document and what this means for the world and the poor. The challenge has been thrown down and who are ready to take this up in the world.

Some interesting facts.

  • Each day an estimated 2 billion people worldwide (1/3 of the planet's current 6 billion inhabitants) live in absolute abject poverty.
  • 1.3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on US$1/day.
  • 3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on US$2/day.
  • to satisfy the world's sanitation and food requirements would cost only US$13 billion- what the people of the United States and the European Union spend on perfume each year.
  • the assets of the world's three richest men are more than the combined GNP of all the least developed countries on the planet.
  • the top 400 billionaires now enjoy a combined net worth equal to the poorest 2.5 billion people on the planet.

A strip of Aoteroa!

Here is some of the amazing Art works that have been completed by our Year 5/6 students at school.
They had to unpack what New Zealand meant for them and then place their ideas onto a panel.
They used bright colours and then went around the edges with marker to really highlight the images.
